Our Story
Sri Gayathri Medical Mission and Research Foundation (SGMM&RF) is a Trust functioning under the aegis of Udavum Karangal.
The main focus of SGMM&RF is to provide affordable Community health care through a process of preventive, promotive and curative health programs by establishing Hospital for the poor and the needy.
On these lines, an Out-patient unit was set up in 2007 under Jeevan Initiatives, with Doctors attending to General Health problems, Dental and Eye clinics. Nearly 100 patients were attending the clinic daily and medicines were given at 50% the cost.
To meet the higher medical needs of the Thiruverkadu population who do not have access to affordable health care, the construction of a 50-bed Hospital was felt very much necessary. The planning to construct a hospital was mooted in the year 2013 and actual construction commenced from 09-09-2015. The Gayathri Hospital was inaugurated on 15th February 2018, which has been registered with the Tamilnadu Government under the TN Clinical Establishment Act.
Initially, for 2 years it was only planned to operate as a Primary Health Care Unit and a referee Hospital.
The Gayathri Hospital now caters to almost 250 patients per day in the out-patient department. The other services like Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Emergency, Lab and Ambulance services have all been geared up to provide In-patient services. The Mother and child facility, ICU and the Operation Theatre facility is of superior quality that will help patients in availing services at an affordable cost.
The patient care services will cover the departments- General Medicine, Mother & Child Care (Obstetrics, Paediatrics), Orthopaedics and General Surgery. The Hospital also offers OP services in Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, and Dermatology.

Greetings!
The value of good Health to live a happy and fruitful life is recognized by all. But there are various obstacles to live a healthy life. Pollution, unhygienic surroundings, malnutrition and poverty are some of them. For the poor, especially manual laborers, if they are ill they cannot earn a living and the future of the family becomes bleak. Private Health- care is expensive and if there are no Govt. Health centers nearby, even a small illness can become fatal.
This is more so in a place like Thiruverkadu, which is far away from the city hospitals and also hosts families living on daily wages finding it extremely difficult to meet both ends. Moreover, there was a need to provide immediate and quality medical treatment to the patients housed in our own Homes at Thiruverkadu. My dream was to provide succor to these sufferings of the poor and the downtrodden. It was only after 15 long years of waiting for accumulation of resources and with the support of Well-wishers my dream was fulfilled.
Yes, Gayathri Hospital came into being on 15-2-2018 and now stands as a symbol of the organization’s care and compassion for the poor. The Hospital reaches out to the huge population of migrants and economically backward people.
I can vouch that the facilities available, the medical fraternity and the service provided is of world class. I am also sure that all those engaged in the Hospital functioning have only one goal – “Providing affordable Health Care to the needy”.
